Thank You God!!!!
So, my tears at the end of the Green Bay Packers season (no actual tears but it creates a mood for the piece) may have been wasted. Brett Farve is a few steps closer to returning to the NFL for the '08-'09 season. But of course there is a hitch. The Packers, whose decision will be questioned until we see what the cheese heads do next season, have decided not to allow Farve to return to the Lambeau Field. Thus Brett has asked for his release from the Packers to explore options with other NFL organizations.
"We wanted him to return and welcomed him back on more than one occasion. Brett's press conference and subsequent conversations in the following weeks illustrated his commitment to retirement. The finality of his decision to retire was accepted by the organization. At that point, the Green Bay Packers made the commitment to move forward with our football team." said a statement from the Packers to ESPN.
Releasing Favre presents the possibility of him signing with NFC North rivals Minnesota or Chicago, where he would be an upgrade over the incumbent QBs. If the Packers traded him, there would be teams outside the division such as Baltimore or Tampa Bay and perhaps Washington that would be interested. This should play out interestingly over he next few days.
